Come July, all vehicle manufacturers will have to make public data pertaining to mass emissions from their vehicles, as well as the decibel levels of their horns.

The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued an advisory to the manufacturers in this regard, based on a directive from the National green Tribunal.

At present, manufacturers have to submit data on emission levels of their vehicles to transport authorities. This has been taken forward to include details of noise levels, and further, to make the information available to the public.

The data will be available in the form of pollutants, including fine particulate matter, and their values.

The move is expected to help prospective buyers have a comparative understanding of the different types of vehicles available, and their effect on the environment.
