The importance of mediation and conciliation as the first choice for resolving consumer disputes is being highlighted in a short film titled ‘Tareekh ya Tareef’ brought out by the Consumer Guidance Society of India (CGSI).

The CGSI, which receives nearly 46,000 consumer complaints each year is trying to create awareness of the fact that arriving at mutually acceptable solutions saves time, energy and resources.

Of nearly 3.5 crore cases pending in Indian courts, 5 lakh cases pertain to consumer disputes.

Dhanraj Khamatkar, IAS (retd), member of the State Consumer Redressal Commission of Maharashtra, who unveiled the film, said conciliation was a lasting solution for consumer disputes.
