Automobile major Ford Motor Co. is recalling over 42,000 units of its Figo hatchback and Aspire cars in India to fix a possible software error.

The cars were made by Ford India’s new plant at Sanand in Gujarat.

The company said a total of 42,300 units of Figo hatchback and Figo Aspire compact sedan were being recalled as it was likely that they had been affected by a software error which could prevent airbags from deploying in certain collision conditions.

The Indian arm of the company did not clarify whether the recall was applicable only to domestic sales, or would affect exported vehicles too.

“A corrective action on all Figo and Figo Aspire vehicles, presently at Ford dealerships, has been undertaken, leading to a resumption of deliveries to customers,” a company statement said. The recalled cars would get a software upgrade.
