Consumers International the world body of consumer organizations will have the theme of “Get antibiotics off the menu”.

Antibiotic resistance is spreading fast and if measures are not taken to reduce global consumption of these medicines, we may end up with a situation when even minor infections cannot be controlled. More than 50% of the antibiotics produced are utilized in agriculture and poultry with the result our food has become rich in Antibiotics. Producers treat animals with antibiotics and they develop resistance to their guts where bacteria accumulate. The resistant bacteria from farm animals spread through the contaminated meat.

The CI has taken up the issue seriously and campaigns against restaurants using farm animals which are fed with antibiotics and requesting them to desist from such animals/food.
