Under new labelling norms announced by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), packaged food manufacturers will have to specify the type of edible oils used in food products, and their trans-fat and saturated fat contents.

As per the Food Safety and Standards (Packaging and Labelling) Second Amendment Regulations 2016, the companies will have to give details of the source of the edible oils and vegetable fats used in their products.

The type of oils and fats that the food item contains, such as interesterified vegetable fat, hydrogenated oils, partially hydrogenated oils, edible vegetable fats, margarine etc, will have to be mentioned as well.
