Japanese automobile manufacturer Mitsubishi Motors Corp. is under investigation for manipulated fuel efficiency data affecting over 620,000 vehicles.

The USP of the ‘mini cars’ manufactured by Mitsubishi Motors is their fuel efficiency, powered by tiny engines. The car maker was claiming about 30.4 km per litre.

Mitsubishi has apologised for ‘intentional falsification’ of mileage test data which boosted fuel economy figures by 5% to 10%.

The falsified test results involve around 157,000 of Mitsubish’s own-brand eK wagon and eK Space light passenger cars, and 468,000 Dayz and Dayz Roox vehicles produced for Nissan Motor Co. produced from March 2013
