The Food Safety wing of Kerala has banned sale of a particular batch of Pepsi soft drinks after fungus was discovered in one of the bottles from that batch.

A consumer who had purchased a bottle of Pepsi found a thick substance floating on the surface of the liquid in the bottle, and complained to the Food Safety wing.

Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety, D. Sivakumar, said lab tests had shown that the ‘fat-like’ substance was fungus.
The drink was purchased from the Army Canteen in the city.

The Department has issued orders banning the sale of the BN 5414BO7A.S batch of the soft drink, which gives the manufacturing date as Jan 7, 2016. “More field level checks are needed,” said Sivakumar.
