Potential problems with fuel and brake lines and the backrest of a rear seat has prompted Ford India to recall as many as 48,700 units of its popular EcoSport vehicle.

The voluntary recall covers diesel vehicles made between April 2013 and June 2014 in the first phase, and between January and February 2016 in the second phase.

Vehicles coming under the first phase will be fitted with a new bundle clip on the fuel and brake lines, to hold them together for enhanced safety. The 700 vehicles coming under the second phase of recall will be fitted with a new rear folding seat.

The automotive major clarified that the recalls of the sports utility vehicles were not based on any customer complaints, accidents or injuries but because of the concerns which prompted the recalls.

“Ford India is asking owners of the affected EcoSport vehicles to contact their local Ford dealer so that the necessary rework can be carried out, free of charge,” the company said in a statement.
