CONCERT was invited to conduct a workshop on “Food Adulteration” for the UG students of JBAS College for women, Teynampet on 22.7.2016.

The programme started at 9.30 a.m. After invocation, welcome address was delivered by Ms.Jeelani Begum, HOD i/c, Department of Chemistry, JBAS college Introduction about workshop was done by Sri G. Santhanarajan. He also made a Power Point Presentation oN Food Adulteration & food safety for a gathering of more than 250 students of various streams. After tea break Pre Training assessment with 10 questions was given to 40 students of Chemistry Division. A demo with Annam Spot Test Kit and label exercise was taught to them. At the end Post Training Assessment was also given to them.

Since adulterations like Kesari Dhal , Argemone seeds were totally new to them they raised several questions on the origin of keshari dhall, its , availability in Tamil Nadu, cost difference etc. Teachers also wanted to clarify the role of different edible vegetable oils in our diet and their relationship with obesity, heart diseases. They wanted to know more about recent episodes like bromates in breads, and chocolate laced with prohibited adulterants. A lecturer from psychology branch wanted to have a special programme for their students on food safety.
