CAI’s first member meet was held on 18th June 2016 at the Mahalakshmi

Welfare Association hall at R. A. Puram. The meeting was attended by 25 members. CAI was represented by 6 of its Trustees, Swathy, Director Projects and staff of CAI.

This meeting was the first face to face programme with members organized by Consumers Association of India – an attempt to get to know its members, what they thought of the services provided by CAI and what more they expected from CAI.

The meeting started with a welcome address by Nirmala Desikan, Managing Trustee of CAI followed by a brief presentation on the activities of CAI in the last 15 years. After this there was a healthy interaction between the members present and the representatives from CAI. Members gave some useful suggestions on improving membership, involvement of members etc

Members suggested that CAI should organise more such meetings and send advance information about forth coming meetings.

Some suggestions received

1. Communications to be sent by SMS to members as many members do not access their e mails.

2. Intimation of future meetings to be publicised through our magazine and website

3. A page should be reserved in the magazine for readers’ views.

Mr. Srinivasan Swamy, Trustee, CAI then informed members about the forthcoming Consumer Grievance Redressal Day, an event planned by CAI to provide a platform for consumers to have their grievances redressed with manufacturers and service providers. Details will be circulated shortly.

Some of the members present who had their grievances redressed with the help of CAI then spoke about their experience. It was indeed gratifying to see the confidence the members had in CAI.

There was a suggestion to get more younger members into CAI to which Swathy explained stating that CAI was promoting student membership through schools and colleges by opening Student Consumer Clubs.

The meeting ended around 6.30 p.m. with a vote of thanks by S. Ramani Trustee of CAI
