ATK Food Products has come under the Food Safety Department’s scanner in Kerala, with the discovery that honey made and sold by the company contains colouring additives like artarazine, sunset yellow, carmozine and ponceau 4R.

Food Safety and Standards rules prohibit the addition of colouring agents to honey.

Food safety officials who raided various shops in the city and collected samples found the additives in the ATK product.

State Food Safety Assistant Commissioner Shibu KV said the company had a listed address in Manickamangalam, Kalady, but it was believed to be a fictitious address.

Shibu said that unscrupulous elements could add colouring agents to sugar solution and sell it as honey.

Food safety officials have been directed to collect samples of all brands of honey and send them for laboratory tests.
