The Uttar Pradesh Health Department has cautioned consumers to check the manufacturing date on the wrappers of ice-creams before eating them.

The advisory follows the discovery of a cache of products which did not mention the manufacturing date, during a raid at the private sector Golden Dairy.

About 5000 pieces of various types of ice-creams manufactured by the concern carried the month and year of manufacture, but not the exact date.

The team which carried out the raid collected samples of some raw materials, including sugar and emulsifying agents, which were sent for tests to a Kolkata lab, an official of the Health Department’s Food Safety Wing said.

The consumption of ice-creams escalates during the hot months of the year, and consumers would do well to take precautions to ensure that the products they buy meet basic safety requirements.
