The Government order banning some Fixed Dose Combination (FDC) drugs has caused concern among patients across the country. Many are worried that medications they have been prescribed and routinely take for long-term ailments will suddenly be unavailable.

Here is a checklist that will help cope with the situation.

1. Update yourself on your medication – the names, brands and potency of each ingredient.

2. Do consult your doctor if you have doubts regarding the status of your medication – do not arbitrarily change the drugs.

3. Remember, it is only the fixed dose combination drugs that have been banned, not the individual components of the combination. If your doctor feels that both components are important for you, he/she will prescribe them separately.

4. When you take different drugs individually as opposed to a fixed dosage, the dosage patterns could vary. Again, follow your doctor’s advice diligently.
