Several automobile majors are installing additional safety features in their vehicles, without waiting for such provisions to be made mandatory. Their pro-activity has been spurred by the rising number of motor accidents.

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. for instance, has incorporated dual airbags and an anti-lock brake system (ABS) for all its Baleno, Swift and Celerio models.

Toyota Kirloskar and Volkswagen have both made airbags a standard feature of all their cars sold in India.
