The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has introduced a mobile app to make it easy for telecom subscribers to complain against unsolicited telemarketing calls and SMSs.

TRAI Chairman R S Sharma said the app had been introduced because companies were finding ways around the stringent laws already in place to check pesky promotional calls and messages.

The app, which is available for Android phones and will soon be made available on iOS, will help TRAI monitor promotional activities that flout rules as well as action taken by Telecom companies against offenders.

The app has simplified the existing complaints procedure. It will show SMSs in a list form and mobile numbers from the source. All customers have to do is to the check the relevant box to select the pesky message or call, and then click the Report option to file a complaint.
